TALKINGSTONE
He kōhatu kōrero —
a stone that speaks.
Talking Stone Gallery is a curated reseller of hand-carved New Zealand pounamu. We do not operate a public studio or physical storefront — each piece is sourced directly from local carvers through proper channels, and every stone is authentic, high-quality pounamu.
Pounamu — what the world calls greenstone or jade — is a sacred taonga to Māori. Found only on the West Coast of Te Waipounamu (the South Island), every stone carries the wairua of the river it was lifted from.
Jon Jeet
Jon Jeet (Ngāti Maniapoto, Fijian Indian) is a registered Ngāi Tahu pounamu carver based in Ōtautahi Christchurch. With a Master's degree from the Ilam School of Fine Arts and more than 15 years shaping taonga, his practice explores identity through portraiture and the carved toki — a vessel that holds the mauri of its wearer.
James Davidson
James Davidson discovered pounamu at age 11 in Hokitika and began carving in a local studio at 13. Born and raised in Akaroa and now based in Christchurch, his lifelong passion for the stone is evident in every piece he shapes by hand in his self-built studio.
Every piece is shaped by hand, and accompanied by its full provenance.
